Liceo Don Lorenzo Milani - Napoli

Partners

Our institution is an upper secondary school working in the field of education.

Liceo Statale Don Lorenzo Milani” works in the area bordering Barra - S. Giovanni a Teduccio- Naples (South Italy) and hosts an audience belonging to the same school districts and neighboring countries. This is the belt of suburbs east of the city of Naples where the problem is typical of a high-density suburbs, characterized by a marked socio-environmental degradation. Live in close contact industrial equipment in the process of demobilization, a commercial and artisan entrepreneurship low or mediocre level and residual agricultural activities.

Because of this precarious economic reality, it has developed over the years, a growing unemployment rate has deteriorated by the social substrate, generating a widespread phenomenon of crime, delinquency and immigration.

This phenomenon has also been favored by 'inclusion of a population from areas "at risk" of Naples, settled here, even illegally, after the earthquake of 1980, devoted, in fact, illegal activities and often precarious. The area has so many serious difficulties, but beyond these negatives, there is another reality: the creation, in recent years, large-scale infrastructure (parks, sports, cultural associations). These structures, however, do not fully satisfy the needs of children because the public use is not entirely open to the request of culture from the neighborhood.

The “Liceo Statale Don Lorenzo Milani” (Naples) is a five-year state high school for pupils from 14 to 18/19 years old. The total number of students currently attending the school is about 800.

The school offers three curricula and a variety of programs in which students can specialize and engage in university studies. International Certificates are also prepared for within the education syllabuses.

The first curriculum is the Liceo Linguistico (High School for Foreign Languages), teaching three languages out of a range of four (English, German, French, Spanish). Its profile prepares translators and interpreters potentially experts in the field of tourism, as well as experts in the field of education.

The second curriculum is the Liceo delle Scienze Umane (High School for Human Sciences) specialising in Human Sciences, Socio-economic Studies, and Health and Social Services. The curriculum provides expertises in the field of education and cooperation, as well as in the domains of anthropology, law and economics. It trains for professions related to the domain of communication, clerical work, and also for professions related to health and social services, in order to meet the growing demand in health and social care.

The third curriculum is the Liceo Artistico (High School of Arts) specialising in Audiovisual and Multimedia, Graphic Design, Architecture, Environment, and Visual Arts (Fine Arts, Painting and Sculpture). The curriculum creates various specific expertises, such as Designers, Planning and Design experts in Architecture, Multimedia and Visual Arts experts.

Our labs:

Graphic Lab:  Graphic Design deals with visual communications - the interaction of words and images to inform, educate, persuade or advocate. It seeks to inform, educate, persuade and advocate through the interaction of words and images. The objective of the Graphic Design Laboratory is to enable students to become innovative, intelligent and responsible designers.

Architecture Lab: Students investigate all of the dimensions of living, both past and present. Teachers are active in their fields and provide important insight into what students can expect from the real-life scenarios and how to successfully navigate it. In this lab students create and render the models developed in class, put classroom theory to practice and construct their own designs and objects. The lab as computers labs with Mac and PC computers with the software students need.

Sculpture Lab: The sculpture lab fosters a creative atmosphere in which the varied histories, conceptions, and manifestations of sculpture can be realized. Students, along with their faculty and staff, form a dynamic learning environment where a diverse range of backgrounds, subjects, and goals are explored, discussed, and given shape.

Audio-multimedia Lab: is a computer lab specializing in tools for the production of multimedia content. Working across heterogeneous and hybridized emerging art forms, including digital imaging, video, audio, installation, online and physical interactive systems, students develop working strategies and practices that both supplement and question traditional modes of expression and representation. Painting and Drawing Lab: In this lab students are introduced  to a variety of fundamental and traditional materials and techniques. The class focuses on perspective, color and value mixing. Materials used include pencils, color pencils, pastels, oil pastels and watercolors. The aim of the laboratory course focuses primarily on student self-expression.

What our School want is…

The issue of environment is often dealt with in our School and meetings with expertises are often held to put the students in direct contact with real-life experiences. Our school has already participated to international and national projects so our teachers, especially our language, Science and art-Design teachers, but not only, can provide their support to this one whereas younger and motivated will put all their enthusiasm and experience in it. Our school is provided with many Artistic laboratories where new techniques and technologies are used as we have first of all the Liceo Linguistico (High School of Languages) that cooperates with other two curricula: High school for Art (especially) and for Human Science. We would like to use ART as a starting point because we think that...'There is art in nature and nature in art'. ART IS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE... MAKES PEOPLE COME TOGETHER SHARING THE EMOTIONS. Art as a cooperative learning, as sharing practice between students and teachers and also as a support for weak students. Furthermore, it is also important to work on the relation between Art and Nature in order to create a feeling of European Citizenship, to discover ourselves as a defender of environment in and out of the school. The project would involve working all participants to improve awareness and understanding of the value of ART AS A TOOL OF COOPERATION, INTEGRATION AND INTERACTION. The project is aimed to emphasize the own identity of a country and to teach the citizens 'TO BE RESPONSIBLE'. The underlying assumption of this international cooperation is to work on rising students' and staffs' awareness inn protecting the environmentally friendly school, learning about partners' culture, traditions and religions, and promoting an effective cooperation. Then, we aim to share and compare knowledge that we will gain with all participants countries to make us more respectful towards environment, art, culture and traditions. We would like to arrange a number of art exhibitions each year within the school and in local communities close to our school, for people of all ages who are considered 'street artists' we cooperate with. By creating a human connection with students, teachers and artists. These workshops help people to understand the experiences of artistic laboratories reflecting and sharing on their attitudes. The workshops present different ways (paintings, sculptures, music, drama - all forms of 'free art') in which social cooperation is translated in a powerful experience. In closing a collaboration among students, teachers and artists can be an impressive and dynamic involvement. This leads to mutual respect, mutual work and eventually mutual 'exposure'. The key point is to understand that the effort is a shared effort, a collaborative exploration.

Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. P.Skargi in Grojec is an upper secondary school preparing students aged 15-18 for university education. The main profiles which the school offers are: maths-physics-ICT, biology-chemistry, maths-geography, humanities, geography-economics.

The school, founded in 1912, is one of the oldest in the district of Grojec and in the whole Mazowiecke Province. The school is situated in a small town of Grojec (about 17 thousand inhabitants), which makes it easier to be in touch with parents in order to deal with matters immediately. The surrounding area of Grojec is mainly a fruit-growing area located in the centre of Poland, 40 km south of Warsaw.

There are 45 full-time teachers and about 500 students in the school. Its students come from different social backgrounds, many come from rural areas. They often need to be strongly motivated to take an active part in school life. There are a few clubs and organizations at the school, e.g. Red Cross, Volunteers' Club or Students’ Sport Club. The school has been a co-organizer of a national English song festival for the last nineteen years and has coordinated or participated in several extremely successful Comenius and Erasmus+ projects since 2010. Still, its students need additional, multicultural activities so that they can be more actively involved and cooperatemore willingly, understanding the importance of their cultural roots and respect for different sociocultural backgrounds. The students feel the need of, and have deep interest in, learning about other cultures and making friends with students from abroad.

In 2015 the school underwent a thorough external evaluation in three fields and received a very high score for its high external exams scores and quality of teaching (ABB). The cooperation with a variety of institutions (e.g. Warsaw University of Technology, Central Mining Institute, Warsaw Smog Alert, local authorities) lets our school be in contact with those that can contribute to the „Impossible becomes possible” project by providing useful information on the discussed issues. However, theschool has not tried to deal with such problems in collaboration with the local community yet. That's why we are sharing experience with other European schools in order to learn from each other and establish long lasting cooperation.

The school curriculum includes some aspects of environment protection, entrepreneurship and health education but we feel this is not enough. Thus, we are trying to correlate the steps taken in the project with the agenda of events at school as well as enrich the curriculum.

The 2nd Lyceum of Kos is  an upper secondary state school with 260 students and 35 teachers and is situated in the border island of Kos. Kos which  is located in the south-eastern Aegean Sea.

Our school possesses library, ICT lab, physics and chemistry labs, gym and an open football course 5x5 with plastic floor rug currently under construction. It prepares students, aged 15 to 18, for university education in science, economics and humanities.

Our pupils are well-motivated and have high-achieving goals.  In addition, our school has a clear intention to provide international influences, such as student and teacher trainees exchange and teacher trainers from universities, to create various arenas for language- and interdisciplinary collaborations in projects using ICT and digital forums. In addition, we aim to create the opportunity for personal meetings with students from other countries and study trips to implement the learning of democratic and ethic values. It is a central policy in our school that pupils must develop good knowledge of foreign languages, linked with key competences for employability such as ICT skills, creativity and team-work, in order not only to increase their chances of finding good jobs in the future but also to acquire basic knowledge, common to educated persons and the capacity to expand that base over their lifetime so that they develop an integrated personality.

The students of our school come from different social backgrounds. Some are immigrants from countries of East Europe. We have students with different religions. Most of our students are Christian but we also have a minority of Muslim students. Although our students have the opportunity to communicate and contact with people from other countries (Kos is a tourist resort), we feel it is very important for students in this mixed community to begin to see themselves as citizens of tomorrow’s Europe, and to see Greece in the wider context of diversity within a common European heritage.

Furthermore, by promoting contact with European countries, we aim to acquire a deep knowledge of various educational systems, methods and teaching tools as well as to create cooperations. Through this process our goal is to give the students stimuli so as to become more tolerant of various cultures.

Our international projects and activities are the following:

In 2007 a YOUTH program our school coordinated was a project named MEDICULTE and it was an itinerant involving 4 partners from the Mediterranean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PixFGTnLxDs

http://2lyk-ko.dod.sch.gr  (in Greek)

During 2013-2015 we participated in a Comenius project with 11 other countries (http://comenius.logrojec.pl/) related to the European Citizenship.

During 2014-2016 we coordinated an Erasmus+ KA2 Strategic Partnership (school to school) in the field of education, named Safe Internet For All (SIFA). Have a look at our project’s website if you like: http://www.sifaplus.eu and the project description: http://www.sifaplus.eu/en/the-project  SIFA was the highest scoring among hundreds of applicants and the first project of its kind to be approved in the field of education in Greece. The Greek National Agency (IKY) presented the SIFA Erasmus+ project as an excellent project example and the coordinator of the project lectured about project management to teachers from all over Greece. IKY also invited the project coordinator to present SIFA as an example of good practice for KA2 projects in an International Conference in Bonn Germany 17-19 May 2017.

Our school, continuing its productive field of activity, the development of good practices and cooperation with other European schools within the framework of planning, organisation and application of ERASMUS+, participated in more KA2 programs since 2016. One called “European students’ Climate Report” (agreement 2016-1-SE01-KA201-022171) focused on the creation of a framework to help teachers and students to work on the field of universal temperature and the climatic changes which take place. Besides our school, five European schools from Sweden, Slovakia, France, Italy and Spain took part in the program. The program worked under the supervision and help of special researchers and two organisations of the University of Technology of Lullea, a town of Sweden, and the organisation for the prevention, the environment and energy conservation as well, in the area of Emilla-Romagna in Italy. Program site: https://www.studentsclimatereport.eu/.

Another program in which our school participated dealt with the issue of immigration. The idea behind the program was to sensitize the participants to the challenges they are asked to face living in a multicultural society and to search for effective solutions on this matter. The knowledge and understanding of the perennial phenomenon of immigration formed the basis so that the students, equipped with the appropriate tools, played an active role and hopefully will make the right decisions in the future for the benefit of the society. What is more, this program encouraged dialogue between students of various cultures and was part of the school benefits which arised from a deep research on the issue of immigration. The title of the program was “We are all immigrants of this world” (agreement 2016-1-PL01-KA219-026099-4) and it sent the optimistic message of the understanding of the relations shaped in today’s multicultural Europe Project site: http://www.weareallmigrants.eu/

Moreover, it is worth mentioning that our school was awarded twice with the third place in educational robotics competitions among all Greek schools.

Our website is working only in Greek, but we will introduce English pages as well (http://2lyk-ko.dod.sch.gr/).

IES PARE VITORIA

ALCOY (ALICANTE), SPAIN

The high school is located in Alcoy, province of Alicante. Our town has 60000 inhabitants. Alcoy is a city with a valuable historical, architectural, archaeological and industrial heritage. Historically, it was a city with special relevance in the Industrial Revolution, especially in the textile sector, but also in the metallurgical and paper industry.

The Secondary Education high school "Pare Vitoria" was founded in 1929, becoming the second high school created in the province of Alicante.  Our school is a public institution which has around 700 students and 74 teachers.

We are an educational institution committed to the quality of education, in which we develop programmes for students with special educational needs and also for students with high capacities. We have also belonged to the network of UNESCO centers since 2004. Issues such as respect for human rights, eradication of poverty, collaboration among nations, sustainable development and dialogue between cultures permeate the daily teaching practice.

Our center has a long history in the implementation of new models and educational tools aimed at improving the different skills of our students.

In 2015, it was decided  to use digital contents in the first cycle of secondary school with the aim of enhancing learning through new technologies, so that students acquire skills in an active and collaborative way through different digital tools. Therefore, the use of the tablet was introduced to replace the textbook in this cycle. This has allowed us to open a range of possibilities to explore in terms of the teaching and learning process.

Another of the strategic lines that defines our center is multilingualism.  The center's effort to promote the learning of English and French has been made evident through various school exchanges. The center's teaching staff has shown a continuous interest in updating their linguistic competence.

In fact, a high percentage of the members has been training to increase their knowledge of English. Thanks to this, the students have been able to carry out research projects using English as one of the vehicular languages.

Finally, another structural change that began in 2011 is the constitution of a team composed of students and teachers, in order to improve coexistence and peaceful resolution of conflicts in the center.

In summary, we can affirm that our educational community has already carried out a large number of projects and activities that are in line with the goals of Erasmus +. These actions enhance multilingualism, pedagogical renewal, the establishment of the community and the improvement of interpersonal relationships inside and outside the classroom.

Although we participate and innovate in different educative fields,we aim at achieving a broader experience in involving our students in the social community, carrying out projects that can benefit other citizens or the city itself. This KA-229 project contains the elements that may help us integrate our work in the high school with relevant issues such as promoting active citizenship and developing early entrepeneurship among our students. The international collaboration will let us tackle different areas of work (pollution, good practices in the field of new technologies, adolescent depression and preservation and dissemination of culture). As all the countries involved pursue the same objectives, the collaborative work will lead to a number of activities from different perspectives that can help us to broaden our vision.
